Inclinometers from POSITAL FRABA
Octet
:
Data units of 8 bits = 1 byte
Parameterization
:
Transfers specific values from the master to the inclinometer. This is realized when the system starts up.
Profibus
:
Process FieldBus, European fieldbus standard, which is defined in the PROFIBUS standard (EN 50170). This specifies functional, electrical and mechanical characteristics for a bit-serial fieldbus system.
Slave
Bus node which is essentially only sends data when instructed to do so by the master. The inclinometer is always slave.
Terminating Resistor
:
Resistors to adapt bus cables; terminating resistors are always required at the end of a cable segment.
Slave
:
Busteilnehmer, der im wesentlichen nur auf Kommando eines - Masters Daten sendet. Der Neigungssensor ist prinzipiell immer Slave.
Word
:
Is frequently used (but not in unified fashion) for a data unit of 2 bytes.
Mode of Operation of the Absolute Inclinometer
The determination of the angle of inclination is based on the measurements of conductivity over plane electrode structures. On the bottom of the cell, partly filled with a conductive fluid, electrodes are applied parallel to the axes. An electrical strayfield is formed out by appying an AC-voltage to the planar electrode structures. By tilting the sensor the fluid level over the different electrodes and in consequence the conductivity, respectively the strayfield changes.
Now the tilt angle and the tilt direction can be measured using a differntial measurement principle.
